AGN LEADERSHIP CONTROVERSY LOOMS

AGN ENUGU DEBACLE - BEWARE OF FRAUD!
First I would like to correct the impression that there was a Congress of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) at Enugu. There was none. The meeting at Enugu was another Peace and Reconciliation meeting, an earlier one was held in Lagos.

It is an act of idiocy to posit that a Court judgement gotten by a member of AGN was "handed over" to a dubious and non existent "Congress". The judgement of a Court of competent jurisdiction is a law enforceable not just by AGN members but any interested party.

The only competent and Constitutionally empowered persons to call a Congress of AGN are the two factional Presidents of AGN, Messrs Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima and Emeka Ike. They are yet to do so.

It is important to note that the reference to the Board of Trustees led by Ifeanyi Dike at the Enugu meeting is a monumental error of judgement. This board has since been sacked by the Court!

It is untrue that the the two National Excos of Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima and Emeka Ike, which were recognized by the attendees of the Enugu peace meeting, were dissolved. The body empowered to dissolve the National Exco are the Exco themselves, principally after setting up an electoral body to conduct National elections. The two National Excos never did and Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima didn't even attend the Enugu Peace and Reconciliation meeting. The purported vacuum created after the "dissolution of National Excos" is a figment of the imagination of the Enugu power hungry fellows who made a futile grab for power.

Those who had sinister plans for the supposed Enugu Peace and Reconciliation meeting and who meticulously executed their evil plans right before the Press forgot one simple fact. The Press coverage of an illegality does not confer any shred of legality on it. Rather it exposes and expounds such illegality.

Our members and the general public are enjoined to disregard the Enugu meeting and all illegalities that has emanated from it, including the "election" of a fake President.

The coming together of the two National Excos of Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima and Emeka Ike to bring AGN crisis to a close is laudable. They are working hard at it. They remain the legal mouthpiece of Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Femi Durojaiye
National Secretary AGN

Boxing: 50 and Out as Mayweather stops brave McGregor

Floyd Mayweather outclassed Conor McGregor to win their money-spinning superfight by technical knockout here Saturday, securing his place in boxing history to head into retirement with a record 50th straight victory.
Former welterweight boxing champion Mayweather, who had come out of a two-year retirement to take on the Irish mixed martial arts star, bided his time before exerting his superiority from the middle rounds onwards at the T-Mobile Arena.
The end came in the 10th round with a tired McGregor doubled over on the ropes as Mayweather landed two hard left hooks, prompting referee Robert Byrd to intervene as a 14,623 crowd with A-list celebrities roared their approval.
He's a lot better than I thought he'd be," a jubilant Mayweather said of McGregor. "He's a tough competitor, but I was the better man tonight."
Mayweather led comfortably on all three judges' cards when the fight was stopped.
The American said he had deliberately taken his time early on in order to take advantage of a fatigued McGregor.
"Our game plan was to take our time, go to him, let him shoot his shots early and then take him out down the stretch," he said. "I guaranteed to everybody that this wouldn't go the distance."
- Clinical display -
McGregor meanwhile suggested the fight could have been allowed to go on, but praised Mayweather's clinical tactical display.
"He's composed, he's not that fast, he's not that powerful, but boy is he composed," McGregor said.
"I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage. I was just a little fatigued. He was just a lot more composed with his shots.
"I have to give it to him, that's what 50 pro fights will do for you."
It was an explosive finale to their much-hyped contest which proved surprisingly competitive in the early rounds as McGregor managed to land a string of scoring punches.

But once Mayweather began to find his range and McGregor wearied rapidly, there was only going to be one winner.
The 40-year-old American scored at will after the early rounds, snapping back McGregor's head with a series of stinging blows.
McGregor, 29, somehow survived an onslaught in the seventh round when a right counter from Mayweather staggered him badly.
Finally McGregor's resistance broke in the 10th when a Mayweather right sent him lurching across the ring.
A hard left put him on the ropes and another hook saw him bent over and helpless, prompting the stoppage.
The fight had followed a largely expected script but McGregor, in his first ever boxing appearance, by no means embarrassed himself.
- 'A win is a win' -
Mayweather will now head into what he says is a permanent retirement with a perfect 50-0 record, one better than heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.
He rejected suggestions that his 50th win, against a novice boxer, would be destined to have an asterisk against it.
"A win is a win, no matter how you get it," Mayweather said. "Rocky Marciano is a legend and I look forward to going into the Hall of Fame one day.
"This was my last fight tonight. For sure. Tonight I chose the right dance partner to dance with."
Mayweather is also expected to be around $200 million wealthier, taking his career earnings to around $1 billion.

McGregor, who was an unemployed former plumber four years ago before emerging as one of the biggest stars of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is expected to earn around $100 million.
If pay-per-view television targets are met, the fight could become the most lucrative in history.
The start of the bout had been delayed by several minutes as anticipation built to fever pitch and television providers struggled to cope with the surge in demand from pay-per-view customers.
Anticipation had built steadily at ringside as an array of stars from the sports and entertainment worlds took their seats, including Bruce Willis, LeBron James and Mike Tyson.
Ever since the fight was announced in June, it had been dismissed as a farce and a freakshow by the boxing community.
But fears of a one-sided massacre failed to materialise and McGregor finished with some respectable statistics. The Irishman's 111 landed punches were 30 more than Manny Pacquiao managed against Mayweather in their 2015 "Fight of the Century.

Moments of truth as Mayweather & McGregor looms

You are

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor prepared for their money-spinning showdown on Saturday as Las Vegas crackled with anticipation for what is poised to become the richest fight in history.
Undefeated welterweight boxing world champion Mayweather and mixed martial arts star McGregor are expected to touch gloves at around 9:00 pm (0400 GMT Sunday) before 20,000 fans at the T-Mobile Arena.
The controversial 12-round showdown between two of the biggest names in their respective disciplines has captured the imagination of the combat sports world but has been dismissed by many in boxing as a farcical mismatch.
Mayweather, who retired unbeaten in 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record, is widely expected to inflict a one-sided defeat on McGregor, a two-time world champion in MMA's Ultimate Fighting Championship who has never boxed professionally.
Veteran trainer Teddy Atlas predicted a rough night inside the ropes for McGregor.
"Would a ping-pong player have a chance of scoring a point against Roger Federer?" Atlas said.
"It's going to be like walking through a really bad neighbourhood late at night. McGregor's going to get mugged."
The high-rollers of the gambling world agree, with the lion's share of the money being bet on the fight placed on Mayweather.
As of Saturday, four separate bets of $1 million or more had been placed on Mayweather to win. Those wagers included a $1.2 million cash bet that will earn around $240,000.
Yet the fact that so many in the boxing and betting world see the outcome of Saturday's contest as a foregone conclusion has not deterred the massed ranks of McGregor's Irish supporters.
The Las Vegas streets surrounding the fight venue following Friday's weigh-in were transformed into a sea of emerald green as McGregor's raucous army of supporters danced and chanted under blazing sunshine.
"And that's why they're going to watch it.""Their response almost universally was 'We don't care if it's a mismatch ... if there's a .01 (percent) chance that something incredible could happen, we need to watch it.'

Some projections have indicated the fight is on track to surpass the 4.6 million pay-per-view buys of Mayweather's 2015 "Fight of the Century" against Manny Pacquiao.

If that happens, the bout is almost certain to become the richest fight in history and will leave Mayweather and McGregor laughing all the way to the bank.
ESPN reported on Saturday that Mayweather is guaranteed a $100 million purse from the fight, which could reach $250 million if the most bullish pay-per-view targets are met.
McGregor, a 29-year-old former plumber who was living on unemployment benefits four years ago, is guaranteed $30 million, but could pocket as much as $100 million, ESPN said.
Both Mayweather and McGregor have spent large parts of the build-up to the fight trash-talking, with an ill-tempered global promotional tour laced with expletives, repeated homophobic slurs and allegations of racist language.
McGregor snarled and yelled into Mayweather's face on Friday when the two men went nose-to-nose at their weigh-in.
McGregor taunted Mayweather after tipping the scales at 153 pounds, well inside the 154-pound limit, but substantially heavier than his opponent, who weighed in at 149.5 pounds.
"That's the worst shape I've ever seen him," McGregor said of Mayweather. "I'm going to breeze through him, trust me on that."
A nonplussed Mayweather shrugged off his weight disadvantage and vowed to stop McGregor inside the distance.
"Weight doesn't win fights, fighting wins fights," Mayweather said. "It won't go the distance. Mark my words -- I'm not worried about the scales."
